Any twinges or tingles besides the ones associated with having to determine
how much the leaky roof is going to cost.

Is baby still cooking healthy and safe? Has baby dropped? Just being nosy
and checking in on the next new Mama.

You're sweet for thinking of us, Cindi. Guess it's high time for a little
update from me, huh? I've just been so busy it's hard to keep up with
posting, even though I know I'm sort of the ticking clock everyone is
watching at the moment!

In non-baby news, the roof situation is still ongoing, as DH couldn't get
anyone to agree to give us estimates quickly, even with the pg wife excuse.
I'm trying not to stress about it and to trust that everything will work out
in the end... even if that just means we keep having small leaks when the
weather's wet, but no major gushes that leave our kitchen or basement
flooded, you know? I'll take what I can get at this point. I just don't
want to have to deal with any major waterworks when I'm in labor (besides
what's happening in the birth pool)! My dad left on Friday after being here
for a couple of weeks working on our basement. While progress has been
slow-going, we have storage shelves and the walls are framed out, so it's a
good beginning and actually feels like an accomplishment. He'll come back
for the birth and then again to finish the project after we've had some time
to adjust to having a newborn in the house. His promise is that we'll have
the whole thing done in time for me to start doing massage work again in
early June (one of the rooms being finished down there is a massage room so
I can work on clients here at home).

As for baby, still cooking safe and sound. I don't *think* s/he has dropped
yet, though it's kind of hard for me to tell because a) I don't know how it
feels, b) I'm incredibly short-waisted, and c) baby's head has been lodged
pretty low in my pelvis for a long time now. The doc and midwife both
always comment on how low the baby's head is sitting, but I'm not feeling
extreme pelvic pressure, so I wonder if baby is just really low because of
my short-waistedness not leaving much room for him/her to go anywhere else?
I had one night last week when I thought maybe it had dropped because I felt
a lot of pressure down low like a constant urge to pee (with no results),
but then I went to bed, and when I woke up again, the sensation was gone.
So who knows? Maybe lying down all night kept him/her from really getting
snuggled into position. Lots of practice contractions, but that's been
going on for a few weeks now, and I only feel them if I happen to have my
hands on my belly at the time. Basically, I guess all this is my way of
saying there's not much happening at this point. I'm sure my body and my
baby are slowly doing their work, but there's no major news to tell, and I
really think I'm still at least a week or two away from meeting this little
one, if not more than that. I'm fortunate to still be quite comfy at this
point, so I'm not feeling any big rush, though I'm getting more excited by
the day about meeting this little person.

I spent about 45 minutes hanging out in the birth pool yesterday. My
midwife had suggested I give it a "wet run" anyway to be sure it wouldn't
leak, and my blood pressure was ever-so-slightly elevated at the doc's
office on Thursday (due in no small part to the house/money stress, I'm
sure, and since there were no other issues, they weren't worried about it),
so I thought hanging out chest-deep in warm water couldn't hurt. Though it
took a long time to fill it up, it was super-relaxing, and I followed it
with a nice little nap, which I think really helped me calm down and regain
a little perspective in the midst of all the stress. Tonight, DH and I went
to BRU to get the must-have stuff still left on our registry. More money
spent, unfortunately, but in the great scheme of things, we got off
relatively easy because we had a registry completion discount, plus some
coupons and gift cards that covered the majority of it. Since I'm a night
owl anyway, I'm waiting now to throw another load of baby laundry into the
dryer, and tomorrow, I'm going to pre-wash all the diapers, diaper inserts,
and wipes, so we should be squared away with at least the really important
items (and then some) by the time baby decides to join us Earthside.
Otherwise, all I have to do is put the finishing touches on the nursery,
finish all the thank you notes I'm behind on writing, and try to get/keep
the house in some kind of reasonably tidy condition so I don't have to
stress about it when I go into labor and have a bunch of people here. I'd
like to have all of it done by mid-week at the latest... a deadline that
keeps getting extended, but what else is new in the life of this
procrastinator?? Smile

Whew! That was a lot for one post. Sorry to be so long-winded, but thanks
for reading this far if you've made it. I appreciate everyone's good energy
and thoughts, and I'll be really excited to have some actual labor- and
birth-related news to share!

Take care,
gabookworm

Did you ever imagine you would be on center stage somewhere on the internet?

That seems like a good attitude to have. Focus on the positive and not the
hard parts. Hopefully the leak will not get any worse before you can get it
fixed, and you won't have a lot of wet before that. My ex parents in law
were having a new roof put on their extension years ago and had the old roof
removed with the new roof to go on the next morning. There was a freak storm
that night (not unusual for the South in the summer), and their extension
was a waterfall. I decided then that a little leak was a warning shot. =-)

You have an amazing Dad. How exciting to have your work room complete and
ready as soon as it's time to get back to work but still get to stay at hope
with your little one.

I am so glad that your little one is cooking safe and sound. I must admit
that there was a certain extra level of excitement when I was in labor with
Rachel. We didn't find out with her either and it was amazing hearing "It's
a girl".

Have fun and try not to stress and worry about the last few weeks.
Regardless of the stresses baby will arrive so try to keep yourself in that
happy space. Oh and when you have a chance how did your Blessingway go?

Cindi

Relax as much as you can now. I think the days before due date are the
most exhilerating-especially with not knowing what you are having. I
found those final days to be so much fun. So much is about to happen
and it is all out of your control (scary too). As fun as it was, I
would have a hard time falling asleep at night and getting my mind to
let me rest. I would have to listen to music to fall asleep. Enjoy the
rest of this time, because it is all so amazing.
All the best to you and your family. Keep us posted!!!
