Hi all - I'm back! For those of you that don't remember, I took a
break from TTC for a few months and will probably start TTC within the
next month or so. Recently, my RE found that my HSG test I had 6
months ago had a "filling defect." It took her so long to see my HSG
because I had the test done through my OB and had to jump through
about 80 hoops to get my RE a copy of the pictures. Anyway, my RE now
suspects that I have a uterine fibroid or polyp and since I also have
symptoms of endomitriosis she wants to me to do a hysteroscopy and
laparoscopy at the same time. She will remove any endo adhesions and a
polyp/fibriod if she finds either of these.

When I spoke to my RE, she said that we have to check out my uterus
more closely before I would go down the road of IUI and/or IVF. Since
I felt that they finally found something "wrong" with me, I jumped on
the surgery bandwagon and said that I would do both procedures.
However, now I'm starting to get "cold feet" as I worry about the
risks associated with surgery and wonder if it might cause permanent
damage to my fertility.

My question is have you been through this? Is the procedures painful?
Also, do you think the risks outweigh the benefits (ex: infection,
decreased fertility, etc)?

I've also read online that uterine polyps/fibroids can cause bleeding
between cycles which I've experience for a long time (my progesterone
is good so that's not the cause of the bleeding).

Any input is appreciated. Thank you,

Kari

Hi Kari,

I've not had any of these procedures, so can't comments on my own
experience. Everything I've read about them indicates they are safe
and if you have endo and fibroids/polyps then you will need some type
of surgery to correct those. Pregnancy is difficult if you have these
issues/problems, so having some corrective surgery should help you
tremendously.

I would do a lot of reading about it on the internet and hopefully
some others will respond to your post who have had this type of
surgery done.

I do wish you luck.

Hi Kari,

I had my lap done about 2 months ago. I was really nervous about
the surgery too before the surgery especially because I had never had
surgery before. It really was not nearly as bad as I thought it would
be. I stayed in bed for 2 days and that was being careful. By 3rd
day I could walk around, a little bend over, but I felt fine. The
worst part for me really was when I first woke up from the
anesthesia. The anesthesia made me very nauseous. I couldn't keep
any water down and threw up 5 times. I did get over that pretty
quickly.

I don't think you have to worry too much about infection as long
as you are careful with the incisions. I was putting peroxide on them
after the first week. I didn't have a problem with that. I don't
know if it would cause decreased fertility. I haven't been able to
get preg still but I couldn't before the surgery. And I was able to
ovulate normal the month after surgery.

Best of luck on your surgery. Wish you a speedy recovery.

Amy

Hi Amy,

Thanks so much for the information. My gut feeling is that this is the
right
thing to do. At this point, I'll probably have surgery in January or
Feb so
I will be back after my surgery!

Happy Holidays,
Kari
