How is your pregnancy going?? Just checking in with ya. Can you
believe Asher will already be 3 weeks old Wednesday??? I have to go
for my 1st OB checkup wednesday too!! This must be something new
because i didnt go with ALexis or Jake until i was 6 weeks postpartum.
It may just be him checking up on my high blood pressure though too.
He said he would gradually take me off the meds once he knew it was
stable. Smile Well how many weeks are you?? Hope your doing fine too.

Thanks for checking in, Clarice. Wow, it is hard to believe Asher is
already three weeks old!! Good luck with your checkup this week--hope that
BP has gone down as expected.

Time is FLYING right now for me, too. We're 34 weeks as of yesterday, and
we had our out-of-town shower with (mostly) family in Atlanta over the long
weekend. Didn't get home until about 1 in the morning last night, so I'm
beat and will probably go back to bed for a while as soon as I've finished
this post. We woke up with a little snow on the ground this morning, so it
will be a good napping day for sure--though I really must devote at least a
portion of the day to tackling at least a couple of the projects on our very
long to-do list. I can't tell you how thrilled I am that this was our last
trip out of town until well after baby arrives. Traveling really takes a
lot of energy, and I need to save as much as possible for the weeks ahead.

The shower was great, even though we were nervous for a while that the
community center where my friend rented the room to have it was going to
close because of the weather--Georgia's one of those places where the whole
place goes into a panic and shuts down at the sight of a snowflake, so it
was touch and go for a while, but they stayed open and all was well.
Between friends and family, we got a ton of the remaining registry items,
though of course, there are still a couple of the more expensive items we'll
have to pick up on our own--including the extra car seat base for DH's car,
the pack n' play, and pretty much the entire supply of diapers (we're using
cloth). We were prepared for that, though, so it's not a big surprise...
there's still some small possibility of our parents jumping in and buying a
couple of the bigger items still because they're all so excited and this is
the first grandchild on both sides, but we're not going to count on that.
It felt so amazing to see how excited everyone is to meet our little one.

I also managed to squeeze in some really good visiting time with a couple of
very close friends I've not seen in far too long, which was a much-needed
bonus. Honestly, I was a little stressed about leaving town when I have SO
much to do at home right now, for fear of wasting precious time, but it was
actually a very productive weekend, both socially and on the
getting-ready-for-baby front. My best friend from high school (baby's
godmother-to-be) and I managed to start and finish sewing the entire nursery
set, including bumpers, crib skirt, a baby duvet/quilt cover, and
curtains--so when the furniture arrives in a few short weeks, we'll have a
gorgeous custom nursery! My friend is a genius when it comes to domestic
stuff like that, so she did most of the work, but I feel good about at least
having had a hand in it when all was said and done. Of course, I think
we're going to have the cutest nursery ever--at least until my friend has a
baby!--but I'm probably a little biased. We also indulged ourselves with a
total of about five hours in IKEA over the weekend... if you've not been
there, it's an incredible place and always tons of fun, even if you're
mostly just browsing like us, and I highly recommend it when/if you're ever
in a city that has one. We picked up some rugs for baby's room while we
were there, so the decor end of things is virtually complete, if you don't
count the fact that the "nursery" is still our regular guest room right now,
and we still don't have the furniture we ordered or paint on the walls.
Oops... looks like I'll be in super-nesting mode from here on out, since
I've procrastinated as usual!! Thank goodness my dad will be here by the
weekend to get going on the basement renovation, as we're quickly running
out of time.

In other, very minor and unimportant news, I managed to deal with the
dreaded cold sore using over-the-counter remedies. The doc offered to give
me a prescription when I was there last week, but I decided against it until
I have some sense of whether this is a one-time deal or a regular thing for
me. Abreva is great stuff, for the record--though a little pricey--and I
used it in combination with this stuff called Lysine + (I think??), which is
a natural amino acid remedy I found at a whole foods/natural health store.
Beyond that, I just kept myself slathered in tons of lip balm (applied with
a clean cotton swab, of course), and it was bearable, even if totally
annoying and a little painful. It did get very scary looking the night
before the shower over the course of our drive to Atlanta, and I thought it
was going to be in "full bloom" just in time for me to greet all my friends
and family, but that was the worst of it, and it miraculously cleared up
overnight--at least enough so that no one but me really noticed it. DH and
I are still keeping ourselves on kissing probation for a couple more days to
be sure it's gone--which is by far the most difficult part of the whole
thing because we happen to like each other.

At last check of her blog, my friend and her DH had made it across the
country and were waiting to board their flight to Taiwan, but that was
posted yesterday. So I'll probably spend whatever time I'm not sleeping
today being a blog-watcher and waiting for the latest update on their
journey to meet their sweet baby boy (they get him tomorrow). Thank God for
the internet in situations like this so I can be a complete voyeur and enjoy
every moment vicariously! Life is very, very good at the moment.

Now back to sleep before I venture out for my mid-day visit with my
chiropractor. Hope everyone is doing well!!

Exciting news this morning: all the nursery furniture came in over the
weekend! We're not going to have it delivered for a couple of weeks yet
because the room isn't ready, but it's great to know it's there waiting for
us (and the baby). Crazy how real it all feels now that we're surrounded by
baby stuff...
