I so hated Huggies with both of mine. They are too gappy in the legs and
leak. That changed as mine got out of that little baby stage and I moved to
the Walmart brand (i don't remember the exact name) and those worked really
well.

I hate Huggies. I always thought they were really stiff and rough. We used
Pampers for Abby until she was potty trained.

Huggies supporter here! I like the Supremes, not the regular. I think
they are softer than Pampers. I don't like the tape or the rough velcro
on the Pampers either. I like Pampers pull ups better though, they are
softer.

Yep didn't like Huggies either, like you say they leak too much especially
with newborn poo. We used a cheap NZ brand for Abby, and for Jasmine we
used pampers.

Yes, his poop leaked out of the Huggies one time in the hospital.

I hate all disposables.
I use cloth. I use several different kinds of cloth. I use fitteds
(waterproof and shaped like a disposable) and flats with snappies and
covers. I rarely get any leaks, and with the flats I can adjust the fold to
suit my baby's size and shape. They're economical (even premium organic
brands add up to a mere fraction of the cost of single use nappies), and
environmentally friendly. They're softer and more breathable, and modern
cloth (shaped nappies) are just as absorbent, if not more absorbent, than
leading-brand disposables (or single use nappies, as many clothies like to
call them - nothing's truly disposable), not to mention better for your
baby's skin, with less detergent used per nappy wash than when washing your
normal clothes, no bleaches or chemical residues against your baby's skin.
www.ozclothnappies.org for more info.
Hope that helps.

You know your the first person in a while that i have heard that has
used cloth. My mom used to use cloth on me because i used to be
allergic to pampers when i was little. That's when they were
plastic. Do you use a diaper service?? That's neat that you do that
too.

I sooo hate Huggies! They leak poop so bad for both my girl's body
types. But, I have an opened pack I'm going to try to use up. I love
Pampers Swaddlers the best. They used the preemie size at our hospital
and they've always worked the best since then. I also tried a no name
brand which didn't work as well either. What other brands are there?
Luvs... ?

No, I don't use a service, because they are very easy to wash now days, with
modern detergents, modern machines, and modern nappy practices. It would
still work out cheaper to get a service, but it's easier just to do them at
home.
Basically I dry pail, which entails just rinsing off the poo, and putting
all nappies in a lidded bucket, no soaking water needed (hence the name of
the practice), and then I was them every 2 or 3 days using half the
recommended amount of detergent, and I like to give mine a prewash (our
machine has a lousy rinse!) and then hang them out on the line. The sun is
antibacterial (it's the UV, so cloud cover is still fine) and bleaches out
food stains (bibs, clothes, and nappies).
What stains don't come out this wash, come out the next. I've never bleached
my nappies. Only when she grew out of a size in flats did I send them to my
MIL for washing/bleaching, to get them like new for the next one (if there
ever is a next one).
You can get "little squirts" that spray the poo into the toilet, then that
makes life easier, especially when they like lots of fruit (like my DD) and
don't have solid poos. For newborns you can just put them straight into the
machine poo and all. I gave mine a slight rinse off, but you know the
texture, esp. breast fed poo. They never stain, and they smell like caramel
(at least DD's did).
Anyway, that's what I do. It is very little work, saves us big $$ (I haven't
needed a new nappy since her first Christmas -4 m.o.- when she went up to
the size of pocket nappies that she's in now, and will probably be toilet
trained in). What a relief for a single income family!
And despite the drought and the heavy water restrictions (level 5 ATM) we
still use less than 280L a day for the three of us, a dog, a cat, and a
bird, washing and everything. (Recommended = 140 Litres pp/day).
Indeed, our local average is 365 L/day, and our city average is 425 L/day.

It TOTALLY depends on the shape of your baby. For us, Huggies worked best.
I don't like the smell of Pampers, but I think we used them a bit for both
girls when they were tiny newborns. But after a month or two, we switched
to Huggies Supremes. If you aren't using the Supremes, you might want to
give them a try before swearing off Huggies forever. I've heard there is a
big difference between regular Huggies and Huggies Supremes.

Clarice-
Hopefully this is not TMI but I think it probably is.... When Mason
first came home he had parasites. I don't know if you have ever had
to deal with that but it is NOT fun!! We went through two of the huge
boxes of diapers in a week his first week home. This continued on for
about a year while we completely rid him of the parasites and allowed
his intestines to heal from the damage they caused. The poor little
guy pooped nonstop with some explosive poo. He could literally shoot
this stuff across a room!! I have pictures to prove it... haha His dad
(and my best friend) needed to see what we were doing when we were up
every two hours all night long. (People would ask me how it was going
and I would always say... our life is a series of moments in between
poop.) This is an indescribable experience. Talk about breaking into
parenthood fast! Anyway we tried EVERY diaper on the market. This
was easy for us since we went through them so quickly... and we
seriously put them to the test! I was terrified of what we would find
in the diapers as well... I have seen some stuff!!! Anyway I loved the
pampers swaddlers but they don't go up past a size 2 (I think) so when
he outgrew those we moved to huggies supreme. They were the only
diapers that didn't leak every time. I think it had to do with that
double barrier elasitc they have and the shape of them. Mason had a
fairly odd shape for the first 18 months or so after he came home from
the effects of poor nutrition, lack of sufficient stimuli etc. So
long story short we are BIG huggies fans here. My sister and I have
this discussion all the time... she loves pampers... I love huggies.
Anyway I really think it is individual to the baby bathroom habits and
shape and your preference.

When Rayna was a baby, we tried Luvs and White Cloud (Walmart brand) and
some other cheaper brands, but they all leaked. Huggies worked well for us,
so we pretty much just used that brand until she was potty-trained.
With the twins, we've just always used either Huggies or Pampers (depending
on which is on sale or which we have coupons for at the time). I just wish
my girls both wore the same size (Kyra recently moved up to size 5, while
Cammy still wears a 4).

We love Huggies Supreme. I tried many other brands. I think we got at
least one package of every brand at the baby shower. All other brands
leaked. The Supremes still fit her best. She is 30 months old and
wears a size 3, so that may have something to do with it.
