I hope all of you and your families are well. Life at our house is crazy.
Mick is 5 1/2 now and in kindergarten. He *loves* school and has become
quite a whiz at using the computer, too. Last summer we finally got a
diagnosis of autism for him. It was actually a relief to get the diagnosis
because it meant that we could get him the services he needs. The
kindergarten class he's in is called "transition" kindergarten, and he
spends some of his time in a mainstream classroom and the rest in a
contained setting. From what I understand from his teachers (and have
witnessed in the hallways), Mick is quite popular with the little girls.
lol. They like to hold his hand and drag him around with them on the
playground. He's still very happy and smiley most of the time. His speech
is echolalic--repeating memorized lines from favorite movies, books or
songs--but we generally know what he wants or needs.
Noah is 3 today! I can't believe it! He is the busiest little kid. He
always has a smile on his face and is making mischief on a grand scale.
Unlike Mick, he has little patience for books and prefers tinkering with
things and figuring out how take put things together or take them apart. I
find little screws around the house and I'm never quite sure what they came
out of or how essential they are to the function of the object they came
from. I'm just grateful that Noah can't reach the ceiling fan or else I
fear it would fall on us in the middle of the night. He's extremely
curious. He still follows me around the house, chattering and saying "what
da doin' mommy?" He seems to like to make us laugh and will dress up in his
dad's hats and reading glasses just to get us to laugh. Maybe he'll be an
actor?
Oh, dear, they're both awake now so I'd better go. I hope everyone is well
and that your little ones are healthy and happy! Hugs to you all!

Hey, Lily!
How are you, girl? I rarely get a chance to get online. Mick has turned
into quite the computer hog. My sister is going to give us an old one for
him to use.
Noah is a charmer for sure. It's hard to get mad at him. He has a big
beaming smile, even in the midst of the chaos that he's created. He's
taught me huge lessons in patience and forgiveness. lol.

Hi!
Yeah, I'm amazed at how quickly the boys have grown. Parenting has been a
fantastic adventure, and I've enjoyed it immensely.
Noah is not in preschool. He is at a daycare that has a good preschool
curriculum in place, though. I'm working full time still at the university.
He had been in early intervention because of a speech delay (which might
have been related to the brain birth defect he has), but he suddenly made
such a leap in his speech, they discharged him early. When I spoke with the
speech therapist, she told me that Noah had 6-8 word sentences (this was in
November) and that she didn't see any reason to keep him in therapy (he was
saying very little back in July).. Anyway, she told me that Noah said,
"Mommy goes pee- pee in the potty downstairs." And I thought, "great,
that's the sentence that got him discharged from speech therapy! What else
has he told her?? " lol!
how are you and your family?

Yup, she's in first grade and loving it.
I'm doing pretty good, we had some good news
a few months ago...you can catch up over on aipg.
I used to knit and crochet little hats for premies awhile
back, just found a lot of my yarn and stuff and I've been
thinking about starting again just recently. Small world!
I hear you on the crazy busy, Maya's schedule is like that--she's
in taekwondo, dance, soccer and Awanas, and I'm the head chauffeur!
Life is about to get a lot busier here this summer as well, whew, can't
even imagine it right now. :-O
Glad to hear from you, and that things are going well with all of you.

Too funny! I'm scared sometimes of what is going to pop out of Jack's
mouth too- LOL! Three year olds, gotta love 'em
We're great. Paul is a big first grader, doing sports and art club,
loving school and playing with his friends. Jack will be 3 March 6th,
and I've been debating pre-school for him for the fall, which is why I
was wondering about Noah. I'm at home now, just running the farm, so he
doesn't need to go yet. Paulie was in a daycare/pre-school probably
similar to where you have Noah until he started school, but I was
working off the farm then. I don't know. Jack is doing great, I'm just
worried that he doesn't have friends his own age, he thinks he's 6!
We've also been blessed with a little girl Thalia is 7 months old,
and our sweet little angel The boys just love her, sometimes a little
too much
Parenting is an adventure, isn't it. I have to say, I love it more than
I could have ever imagined. I'm a little apprehensive about the teenage
years, but heck, that's a long way off

Lisa,
I'm glad to hear that all is well and everyone is adjusting. Have you heard
about the digestive enzymes that some people are using?
http://www.enzymestuff.com/conditionpdd.htm One of the moms at the girls
preschool was talking about it. Her son, K, is on the autistic spectrum --
he's 4, and doesn't talk much -- a little bit, but mostly parrots back to
you what you have said. He will hold your hand and lead you to something
that he wants to do, but doesn't really answer questions. His mom heard
about the enzymes as a possible solution to wheat intolerance issues -- I
guess there is some thought that sometimes the body can't handle certain
foods, and it manifests in some autistic symptoms. One method to test this
out is to cut out all wheat, but that's really hard to do. So she tried
this enzyme first, which helps the body digest the wheat. I guess this is
an enzyme that we already have in our system, but some people have less of.
Anyway, she saw a really rapid improvement in just 2 weeks time. I know it
sounds "miraculous!", but I figured it was worth passing on. I saw K about
3 weeks after he had been on these enzymes. She asked him if he wanted to
go on the slide. He said "yes." A few days later in preschool, when
looking at a chart of animals, and being asked what his favorite animal was
from the farm, he said, "horse." She said he has just started doing that,
answering direct questions, and that his therapists have noticed his
improvement as well and been impressed with it. So I thought I'd pass it on
to you. There is a book and a website.
Sending love, hugs and strength your way. : )
