Saturday April 29th, 2006 marks Adoption Forum's one-day Spring
Symposium! The day's agenda addresses past attendee feedback
requesting further in-depth exploration of emotional and
psychological issues connected to adoption, and is hosted at the
Sheraton Park Ridge in King of Prussia/Valley Forge, PA.

At 8:30 the symposium begins with registration and free continental
breakfast.

The first session runs 9:00AM- 11:30AM and is "Who am I? Identity
Development and How It Is Affected By Adoption" presented by Robert
Hafetz (adoptee and author of "Not Remembered, Never Forgotten", a
great book). With discussions and personal stories and group
interaction, the workshop explores how adoption affects the
development of one's identity.

11:30 to 1:30 is lunch and a free concert with Zara Phillips.

After lunch, the second session (1:30PM- 4:00PM) is "The Impact of
Having Children on The Core Issues of Grief and Loss" led by Zara
Phillips (adoptee and author of "Chasing Away The Shadows"). The
session explores how having children can reawaken previously buried
issues related to adoptee grief and birthparent relinquishment, and
how adoption affects our parenting.

The Sheraton Park Ridge is just outside Philadelphia and very

Adoption Forum is a registered non-profit organization. This looks
like a day inspiring much reflection, innerwork and development, plus
the fellowship of being with people like you who understand and share
the issues. Though members receive discounted admission, you need
not be a member to attend. Seating is limited for these more
intimate workshops, so register today.

The Role of Attachment in Human Development and the Unique Impact
of Adoption
By David Marion ED.D. and Rita Roitman M.S.W. L.S.W.

This workshop will provide an opportunity to apply general models
of development (e.g. Freud, Mahler, Erickson, Winnicott) to unique
disruptions that occur for adoptees. To increase professionals empathic
attunement to the needs of the triad members (adoptee, birthparent,
adoptive parent) we will utilize both didactic and experiental formats.

Lunch (on your own) and private concert by Zara Phillips (adoptee,
mother and author of "Chasing Away The Shadows")

Post Reunion Discord Among Reunited Birth Mothers and Adult
Adoptees
By Robert Hafetz

This workshop will explore the conflicting emotional dynamics
encountered when birth mothers and adoptees find one another after many
years of separation. The motivation and expectations of the adoptee
will be explored and contrasted to the needs and expectations of the
birth mother. The first part of the course will include a presentation
by an adoptee giving first person experience covering, in detail, the
motivation, needs and expected outcomes of searching for the birth
mother.

In addition, a birth mother will relate her personal experience
regarding her post reunion experience. The second part will cover
methods on prevention of post reunion conflicts, and therapeutic
interventions. The third part will be an interactive discussion,
allowing ample time for direct question and in depth exploration of the
subjects previously covered.
